WAYNE COUNTY · PAUPACK & LAKE TOWNSHIPS · HAWLEY
Paupackan Lake Estates is an established private lake community in the Hawley area of Wayne County, spanning parts of Paupack and Lake Townships. Homes sit along wooded roads around privately owned Paupackan Lake, in a mix of year-round houses, second homes and older vacation cottages rather than a dense resort development.
The association was incorporated in 1961, and the lake was enlarged from an earlier body of water known as Long Pond. Most of the development came in the 1970s, which shows today in the variety of house styles and lot shapes around the lake. The association maintains the lake, the roads and a community public-safety function, and residents organize social events through the year.
The community sits within the wider Hawley and Lake Wallenpaupack recreation area while keeping its own private-lake identity, separate from Lake Wallenpaupack itself.
✗ STR Not Permitted — HOA Covenant
Short-term rentals are not permitted at Paupackan Lake Estates. In March 2025 the Paupackan Lake Association confirmed that it enforces its single-family residential covenant against short-term rentals and intends to continue doing so. Paupack Township separately regulates short-term rentals and requires a township permit, and properties on the Lake Township side have their own municipal requirements, but the association's covenant controls inside the community. Buyers should confirm the current association rules before purchasing.
