CARBON & MONROE COUNTIES · ALBRIGHTSVILLE, PA
Indian Mountain Lake Civic Association — IMLCA — is a private gated community nestled in the Pocono Mountains near Albrightsville, Pennsylvania. The community occupies approximately 4,600 acres across four townships: Penn Forest Township in Carbon County, and Tunkhannock, Chestnuthill and Polk Townships in Monroe County. Its location gives residents quick access to the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 80, and puts historic Jim Thorpe, Bushkill Falls, Hickory Run State Park, and Pocono Raceway all within easy reach.
The IMLCA is a professionally managed full-service association. Access is controlled, with identification required for residents, guests and vehicles. Annual dues cover the gated entrances, 24-hour security patrol, road maintenance, trash removal, and full use of the community amenities. Golf carts are permitted on private roads within the community — a practical and popular feature across the development. Five lakes distributed across the property offer designated swimming areas, fishing and non-motorized boating throughout the warmer months.
✓ STR Allowed — Penn Forest & Tunkhannock Township Sections Only
The Indian Mountain Lake Civic Association permits short-term rentals and requires owners to complete its rental registration and short-term rental permit application. Whether a property can be rented short-term depends on its township. In Penn Forest Township (Carbon County), short-term rental is a permitted use in all zoning districts, with an annual township license, an initial zoning permit and an inspection. In Tunkhannock Township (Monroe County), STRs are allowed with a township permit and inspection. Chestnuthill Township (Monroe County) allows STRs only in its General Commercial district, by conditional use, so the residential sections of the community do not qualify. Polk Township (Monroe County) has prohibited STRs in its R-1 district since August 2024, and parcels in other districts must have at least one contiguous acre. Township boundaries within the community don't always match published descriptions, so buyers should confirm the municipality of the specific parcel before purchasing for rental use.
