Community Setting

Lake Hauto is a private gated community centered on a 330-acre spring-fed lake in the lower Pocono region. It straddles two municipalities: about three-quarters lies in Rush Township, Schuylkill County, and about a quarter in Nesquehoning Borough, Carbon County. The community is managed by the Lake Hauto Club, which oversees the lake, recreational facilities, and common areas for members. The community includes several distinct subdivisions — Tall Oaks, Birch Pools, Westwood, and Lake Hauto Woods, whose owners are required to join the Lake Hauto Club as full members; and Eastwood and Oakwood, whose owners have the option to join as recreational members. Public sewer and water serve the community, eliminating the need for wells or on-lot septic systems.

Lake Hauto is not far from Jim Thorpe — one of the most scenic and historically significant small towns in Pennsylvania, known for its Victorian architecture, outdoor recreation, the Lehigh Gorge, and the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum. Hickory Run State Park is also close by. The lake itself supports a full range of motorized and non-motorized recreation. Motorboats, jet skis, and houseboats with restrictions are all permitted, and a permit is required to use the lake. ATVs and golf carts are permitted on Lake Hauto Club property.
